Students at the school will be the first to see the new look Jolly, when he visits to wish them a happy 100th birthday. The school opened back in 1908 around the same time that the Jolly Fisherman was introduced as the Skegness resort mascot. Since then the Jolly Fisherman poster and image of him dancing along the resort’s golden sands has become the best-known holiday advertisement ever drawn.
At the event, students from the school will give a special assembly for Jolly, singing him a happy birthday and giving him birthday cards. The school will also present the Jolly Fisherman with a 100th birthday plaque that will be installed in Compass Gardens.
On behalf of local organisations, Skegness Civic Society will present the school with a limited edition Jolly Fisherman mirror.
The Mayor of Skegness, Councillor Ken Milner, will explain to students the history of Jolly and why he is still so important to Skegness.
At 12noon, following the special assembly, Jolly, accompanied by the Mayor, will visit the Hildreds Centre in Skegness to meet holidaymakers and residents.
